HALFWAY THROUGH THE CIRCLE4CHANGE TOUR

After 65 days and a journey of more than 2,500 kilometres through six countries, Bruno Doedens and his tree bike have arrived in Nova Gorica and Goriza, the joint European Capital of Culture 2025. They are now halfway through the Circle4Change Tour.
Everywhere they pass, people make cheerful contact. The birthday trees they hand out along the way, 5,000 so far, bring joy; a small gesture with great symbolism. The Circle4Change family grows every day. With every kilometre, they make new connections, with citizens, schools, companies and municipalities. The meetings with involved mayors, often in smaller cities, give hope in particular: so many people want to move towards a greener future!
That is what it is all about: the simple, but powerful idea of the birthday tree: “It’s my birthday, so I’m planting a tree.” The people they speak to along the way are touched by this ritual. It connects celebration and care, a party with responsibility. And it makes a lasting difference – tree by tree.
The Circle4Change exhibition opens at Nova Gorica station, next to Europa Square. International media have picked up the project as well. On July 9th, Doedens will set off again on his way to Venice, where he hopes to arrive on July 13th. This summer, Circle4Change is part of the international Time Space Existence 2025 exhibition at Palazzo Mora in Venice, organised by the European Cultural Centre. On Tuesday, July 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, you are most welcome at Palazzo Michiel for a public presentation about Circle4Change.
On the morning of July 16th, the procession will slowly depart from Venice towards the Alps. If you are in the area and fancy an inspiring day on your bike, with a view of the mountains and the future? Then come and cycle along for a bit!
Do you also want to become part of this growing movement? Plant a tree on your birthday – for yourself, or as a sustainable gift for someone else.
On Circle4Change.eu you can find more information about the project and how you can contribute.
In 2022, NVTL made a video interview with Doedens about his previous project BOSK in Leeuwarden. A similar temporary forest also arose on the ring road of Amsterdam last weekend in honor of the city’s 750th anniversary.
