The OntwerpAcademie offers two-year courses for career changers who want to retrain as garden designers or planting specialists. Students can choose between two fields of study: Garden Architecture or Planting Specialist. Both courses are classified at NLQF level 5, which is comparable to the first two years of higher professional education (or an associate degree in higher professional education).

For the final examination of the second year of study, the Design Academy’s examination board is looking for suitable design assignments for the Planting Specialist programme.

What does the exam assignment entail?

Planting Specialist exam candidates are tasked with developing their own vision for the planting based on an existing garden design by a fellow professional. They do this by:

• Analysing the design provided.
• Drawing up a green structure and a planting indication plan.
• Developing a complete planting plan.

Condition: The design provided must consist of a design plan and a clear description of the design principles.

Important principles

• The work of the examination candidate is completely separate from the work of the original designer.
• The design is used as the basis for the examination assignment and must be completed within the timeframe set by the examination board.
• The work is assessed by independent assessors.

Option for designers

The designer who supplies the base material can register, if desired, as an assessor for the examination of the exam work.
