The OntwerpAcademie will start on Monday 12 January 2026 with the practical course Biophilic Design, led by lecturer Hilde Reichgelt. More nature and greenery in the environment in which we live and work has a positive influence on our health and well-being. Enjoying peace and relaxation in a green environment such as the garden is a natural starting point for a garden designer. Interiors, on the other hand, are often more functional and practical, while a connection with nature and a view of the garden also contribute to greater happiness in the home.

In traditional interior design, the given space and the client’s wishes regarding function and atmosphere form the basis for an interior plan. In biophilic design, the client’s well-being and happiness through contact with nature, based on a love for all living things, is the most important starting point. To assess a biophilic design, 15 patterns for Biophilic design have been formulated, and these patterns form the basis of the lessons. Supported by basic knowledge of interior architecture, as well as exercises in presentation techniques and drawing skills, we will search for meaningful designs that are more than just green decoration.

The course covers the 15 patterns of Biophilic Design, combined with basic knowledge of interior architecture and exercises in presentation and drawing skills. Participants will discover how to create meaningful, functional and aesthetic designs that go beyond decoration. This course is suitable for anyone interested in “green” interiors. For landscape architects and designers, this course is a great way to connect interior and exterior design and thus expand your professional field.
