In De Kloof, recently published, Rob van Aerschot examines how the design of landscapes, buildings and public space relates to the way people experience their surroundings.

Against the backdrop of climate change, urbanisation and social fragmentation, Van Aerschot explores what our living environment means to us, and what our approaches to building, design and spatial organisation reveal about us. In De Kloof he analyses the interaction between people and landscape and presents a well-developed theory of this relationship, in which aesthetics play a key role. What we find beautiful, he argues, affirms our sense of being and expresses a longing for harmony between people and the world.
