The latest issue of ’scape magazine, titled Follow the River / designs that make her beautiful – from source to coast, explores how designers approach rivers with care, knowledge, and creativity. This issue presents twelve projects along an imagined river that begins in the mountains of central Europe, flows through Canada, the United States, Thailand, and Portugal, and ends in the Dutch delta. Each project highlights the ways in which thoughtful design can enhance both the ecological and aesthetic qualities of rivers, from source to estuary.

Readers can explore the redesigned source area of the Danube in Germany, where restored ecological values are on display, and the Swiss village of Bondo, rebuilt after a landslide. The issue also features rivers in North America, including canoeing along Canada’s Bow River and strolling through Tom Lee Park on the Mississippi in Memphis, as well as cycling along the green corridors of Houston’s Buffalo Bayou. In the Netherlands, the Meuse demonstrates how rivers can be given space to flow while contributing to safe and distinctive landscapes. The issue further highlights innovative coastal projects in Thailand and Portugal, including a sponge park in Bangkok and a boardwalk along the Tagus estuary.
