Thursday 12 February marks the conclusion of the ‘ARO-OOST’ programme series, organised by the architecture centres in Gelderland and Overijssel as part of the national Spatial Design Action Programme. During this closing event, Noël van Dooren, Government Advisor for the Physical Environment, will outline the challenges facing the landscape in the eastern Netherlands and why we need to solve them through both design and politics. During this closing event, we will look ahead with Noël van Dooren, Government Advisor for the Physical Environment, to the developments that are coming to our region. Agriculture, nature, housing, water, energy, defence and climate refugees are challenges that call for a new landscape balance and a more self-aware positioning of our region as a whole. How can we hold our own in today’s turbulent world, where geopolitical upheavals and climate change set the tone?

Keynote speaker Noël van Dooren

Landscape architect Noël van Dooren (Ewijk, 1967) graduated from Wageningen University in 1991 and lives in Utrecht, 2 metres above sea level. He is an inquisitive thinker and researcher who enjoys working outdoors. He manages a farmyard near Zutphen and sees it as a window on the future development of the Netherlands. Noël started working for H+N+S landscape architects in 1992, spread his wings as a freelancer and was successively editor at Blauwe Kamer, head of landscape architecture at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, PhD candidate at the University of Amsterdam, coordinator of the professional experience period, lecturer at Van Hall Larenstein Velp, researcher at Aeres Almere and provincial advisor on spatial quality in South Holland.
