Position for Prof Landscape Architecture

University of Algarve, located in Faro, Portugal, will soon open an initial, tenure track, position (Professor auxiliar) for a Professor in Landscape Architecture. Since the universe of Landscape Architects with a PhD, in Portugal, is somewhat limited I am interested that this information reaches as much possible candidates as possible. May be you can spread it around or even know some possible candidates to whom you can pass this information.
Initial salary is around 3400€ /month X 14 months per year (i.e. Christmas and vacations supplement). This takes the form of an international contest with opening and closing dates (usually a 30 days interval) and will be advertised in “Bolsa de Emprego Publico” (https://www.bep.gov.pt/pages/oferta/Oferta_Pesquisa_basica.aspx). To be admitted to the contest, the candidates need to have:
1 – A PhD and a Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture, or equivalent. (The PhD degrees obtained outside Portugal need to have been recognized by a Portuguese institution by the closing date of the contest. Depending on the University where the PhD was obtained the recognition can be automatic, or you can ask for 1) a level recognition or 2) a specific recognition. The type of recognition is not important, but the PhD needs to be recognized. This site helps deciding what to do: https://www.dges.gov.pt/pt/content/recautomatico (specific recognition needs to be asked for at a University with a PhD degree in the same scientific area. University of Algarve does not confer PhDs in Landscape Architecture. Usually, after all the paper work is done it takes approximately a month to have an answer. Nevertheless, sometimes, to do all the paperwork takes time, since some documents need to be “authenticated”, have “apostilles” or similar)
2 – A certificate of intermediate level in Portuguese Language for Foreigners (minimum B1) (unless the candidates are citizens of a country where Portuguese is the native language). (The Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira (CAPLE), or Centre for Evaluation of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, issues certifications of proficiency in standard European Portuguese as a second language. CAPLE exams are offered in Portugal and 45 other countries and territories. Most often, related to Portuguese consulates…) Usually, this certificate needs to be presented at the date established to sign the contract.
Other specifications planned (can still be changed by the selection panel) for this specific contest include:
– Candidates will be evaluated on absolute merit and their admission will depend on:
- a) Possession of a global curriculum that the jury reasonably considers to be of scientific merit and have already developed some research capacity compatible with the area.
- b) The candidate is the author or co-author of at least three (3) technical/scientific texts, in the form of articles, books or technical/scientific book chapters, in the last five (5) years, relevant to the area in which the competition was opened.
- c) The candidate has proven experience in Landscape Architecture Design (public space, gardens/parks, etc.) with knowledge of landscape architecture execution design techniques and advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or other digital design software, demonstrated through a portfolio of projects carried out and awards obtained in the project area.
- d) The candidate has a demonstrated ability to get involved in community intervention projects.
